Ever wonder what that endless, yellow wall-papered maze would look like up on the big screen? Now you’ll get the chance. The Backrooms is getting a movie – the adaptation will be based on the YouTube series of shorts horror films posted by Kane Pixel. The low-budget, found-footage series was created by 17-year-old Kane Parsons in early 2022.
From a first person point-of-view, Parson’s short films slip viewers through a crack in reality and into The Backrooms. Wandering a series of hallways, rooms, and tunnels that never seem to end. Each dark corridor leads into an impossibly large expanse, deeper into the maze of this complex. It’s eerily empty for the most part. There’s unnerving sounds, disturbing drawings on the walls, and eventually otherworldly creatures.
The original concept for The Backrooms creepypasta spawned from a photo posted to a thread on 4chan. It spread to Reddit, YouTube, and TikTok; users share experiences of “no-clipping” out of reality and into these “liminal spaces” known as The Backrooms. Backrooms of what? Well, the backrooms of reality. The spaces between.
Who is Creating “The Backrooms” Movie?
A24, Atomic Monster, Chernin Entertainment and 21 Laps are currently developing the horror shorts into a full-length feature film. Parsons will be directing this project as well. Details pertaining to the storyline haven’t been released, though the script will be written by Roberto Patino.

The Backrooms YouTube series currently has 16 entries. Parsons’ latest video titled, “Backrooms – Damage Control,” was just uploaded, Jan 30th. Navigating The Backrooms is suspenseful and at times claustrophobic. Whatever this latest adaptation’s plot details are, it’s sure to keep viewers on edge.
